How does the solar system work? part 1

the pool

Tuesday 19th September

Story told by Paula, written by Miss Ashley.

We went to the pool. I had to wear togs. My partner was Suave. We had to swim to this side and then come back. I had to put my hands together and do freestyle. I kicked my legs. My swimming teacher is Owyn. We get out with the pool and go and shower. Me and Lopi, all the boys we go and shower. We put our uniform on, my shoe on and they take my bag and go to Miss Aireen and then go into the bus and then come back.

I was on this side of the pool.

I like to swim.

There was three pool. One this side, one this side and one this side. Room 1 and Room 2 swim with us. Miss Thompson and Mrs Jalili swimming in there.

My group is me, Merielle, Suave, Lopiseni, Amon, Auckland, Hiria, Lydia and Joshua.

I felt scared because I didn’t know what to do. At the end I was only little scared.

Penguin presentation

Paula:
Penguins are black and white birds that can’t fly.
They live in Antarctica, Australia and New Zealand. These places are really cold and penguins like the cold.

Penguins have claws, a bill, webbed feet, a tail and flippers. They use their tail and flippers to help them stand up straight.

Penguins are good swimmers and use their flippers like arms to help them swim fast. They catch their food while they are swimming. They eat fish, krill and squid.

Penguins catch prey with their bills and swallow it whole while swimming. A penguin has a spiny tongue and powerful jaws to grip slippery prey.

Saia:
The predators of the penguin are sharks, leopard seals and polar bears.
Penguins use camouflage of their black and white feathers to help them hide from predators. When swimming, their white bellies blend in with the surface when viewed from predators below, and their black backs blend in with the dark sea when viewed by predators from above.

Paula:
Penguins live together in captivity. There are 20 different kinds of penguins and they live ford different lengths of time. Emperor penguins live for 20 years. Little penguins live for 6 years.

Saia:
Penguins lay eggs. Emperor penguins breed every year between June and August which is winter in Antarctica. To keep the eggs warm the parents put the egg on their feet and the parents feather keep the egg warm. Emperor penguins incubate their eggs for about 65 days before the egg hatches.

The Boy who cried 'Wolf'

Once there was a shepherd boy. The boy was short and had long brown hair. He had to look after a flock of sheep. One  long day, he felt  sleepy and decided to play a prank on the other people in the village. He   shouted“Help! Wolf! Wolf!”
The villagers heard his cries and  ran fast out of the village to help the shepherd boy. When they got to him, they asked, “Where is the wolf?”
The shepherd boy  roared with laughter, “Ha, Ha, Ha! I tricked you all. I was only playing a prank on you.”
A few days later, the sun was shining and the boy was bored again. The shepherd boy played the trick again.
He cried, “Help! Help! Wolf! Wolf!” Again, the villagers  galloped up the hill to help him and again they found that the boy had tricked them. They were  angry with him for being so  naughty.
A few days later, it was  horrible weather. The boy watched a wolf  run into the field. The wolf attacked one  big sheep, and then another and another. It was  awful. The shepherd boy ran towards the village saying loudly, “Help! Help! Wolf! Help! Somebody!”
The villagers heard his cries but they laughed because they thought it was just another prank.
The boy ran to the nearest villager and said, “A wolf is attacking the sheep. I lied before, but this time it is true!”
Finally, the villagers went to look. It was true. They could see the wolf running away and many dead sheep lying on the  long grass.

We may not believe someone who often tells lies, even when he tells the truth.

WALT edit a story to make it better

The big town of Hamelin was a beautiful town.  1 million people lived there and it was a really  nice place to live.

Unfortunately, they found that the town was suffering from a  horrible plague of rats. The town council tried everything to get rid of them, but  they couldn’t. At last, the mayor promised a  humongous reward to anybody who could get rid of all the rats

A stranger dressed in bright  beautiful clothes arrived and said he could get rid of all the rats in Hamelin. He was wearing a big  pirate hat and long  black coat. That night, the stranger started  to play a tune on his flute. All the rats came out of the  disgusting houses and  tall buildings and into the river, where they drowned.

The mayor would not pay the piper  because he said that playing a flute was not good enough to get a reward. The piper was angry because he got rid of the rats. the Mayor told the piper to leave Hamelin.

Then  the next day the piper came back, and started to play his flute. This time, all the children followed him, and he left the village towards the  big mountains. Suddenly, a  small cave opened in the mountain and the piper and all the children went in. The cave closed behind them and the children were never seen again in Hamelin.
